Five years ago today, July 28th, 2005, Jillian debuted on Smackdown. Can you believe it’s been 5 years? Time goes quick! My friend Mace and I put together a countdown of what we think are her special moments. This is a special project for both of us as we are huge Jillian fans who want her to get the commendation and appreciation she deserves. 10. Jillian vs. Gail Kim (WWE Superstars, June 3, 2010)
Mace: This would arguably have to be the top divas match for 2010. Gail and Jillian were given a good amount of time and pulled off some fantastic spots, such as the superplex from Jillian and the rana on the outside by Gail. The only other divas match from 2010 that rivals it is Michelle vs. Beth at Extreme Rules.
9. Trish & Lita attack Jillian (Raw 15th Anniversary Special, December 10, 2007)
Kim: I rarely use this word, but this moment had to be epic for Jillian. Yes, she ended up being attacked by Lita and Trish Stratus. I think Jillian herself could say it was an honour.
Mace: I agree with Kim, it was an honour for Jillian to appear in an awesome segment with Trish and Lita.
8. Jillian vs. Mickie James OVW (OVW, November 19, 2005)
Kim: Not as many people get to see OVW matches as they do WWE ones. Jillian had some amazing matches with Mickie back in Ohio Valley Wrestling. If you get the chance to see some old matches of Jillian from OVW, watch them! You won’t be disappointed.
Mace: Jillian herself described this match by saying “this one is worth buying!” how right she is! This is a classic OVW match that went for almost 16 minutes. What’s more is Jillian showed off her 450 degree splash, which is a sight to see. Jillian and Mickie had such great chemistry that carried into WWE.
7. Jillian sings opera and catfights with Michelle McCool (Smackdown, April 20, 2007)
Mace: Classic Jillian! A lot of people don’t remember this moment but it was very funny and well written. Both Jillian and Michelle performed their roles well. Jillian was a standout Smackdown diva of the modern era.
6. Jillian & Lillian Garcia have a sing off (Raw, November 24, 2008)
Kim: Who could forget this moment?
Mace: This hilarious and entertaining moment earns the 6th spot in our countdown of the top 10 Jillian moments. It helped to advance the Jillian & Lillian rivalry, which in itself was unique and exciting.
5. Jillian vs. Stacy Keibler (Velocity, October 28, 2005)
Kim: Though it was only a short feud, it was still one I remember. Jillian & Stacy ended up having a match during an episode of Velocity. Jillian was the last person to have a match with Stacy.
Mace: I believe this was Jillian’s first match in WWE, and what a match! Beating Stacy was a big deal; she’s a legend of the “golden era”.
4. A Jingle with Jillian is released (December 11, 2007)
Kim: Jillian released her first album A Jingle with Jillian on December 11, 2007 on iTunes nationwide. The album features five traditional Christmas songs. The album itself reached number 20 in the UK Holidays Top 100 shortly after its release.
Mace: The fact that an album was released is a testament to how well Jillian pulls of the signing gimmick. What’s more is A Jingle with Jillian was actually a commercial success, which was great to see.
3. Jillian vs. Melina (Judgment Day, May 21 2006)
Kim: Jillian & Melina had a fantastic match-up for this Pay-Per-View. Their whole feud was probably Jillian’s best one to date.
Mace: This was an amazing match that rivalled Mickie James vs. Trish Stratus at Wrestlemania 22. The match itself told a story and was a dramatic conclusion to the well-received Melina and Jillian feud.
2. Jillian makes her WWE Debut (Smackdown, July 28, 2005)
Kim: 5 years ago today, Jillian graced our television sets when she debuted on Smackdown.
Mace: Jillian’s debut was well handled, especially for a diva, she was given a gimmick unlike anything we had seen before and the mole on her face was the talk of the town for a period of time. It definitely put her on the map.
1. Jillian Wins the WWE Divas Championship (Raw, October 12, 2009)
Kim: No doubt, Jillian’s first title win, the night she won the Divas Championship is one of her top moments. Even though she only held the title for the night, it was still an accomplishment to win it. All of her fans were and still are so proud of her for that. I was literally on the edge on my seat with a huge smile on my face the moment the ref made the 3 count. She deserved that moment, and she’ll have another one someday.
Mace: This was a huge moment for Jillian; she deserved the championship more than any other diva on the roster. Unfortunately she didn’t get to have a full blown title reign, but she could finally say that she had been champion. I was so proud and happy for her when she won the title, and I’m sure one day she’ll be able to call it hers again. She has put so much time and effort into the WWE and she won’t go unrewarded for long.
It was difficult to define the top 10 Jillian Moments as there are so many, it’s even harder to rank the ones we think are the most significant. We have to give honourable mentions to Jillian’s appearance on WWE Idol, her raw debut, Jillian vs. Mickie James on Heat and Jillian’s backstage appearances with DX, Jewel and Verne Troyer this year. Jillian is truly one of the most interesting, humorous and talented wrestlers in the WWE. A huge thank you to everyone involved in this special post, and a big congratulations to Jillian for 5 years in the WWE.
